Loving Dogs and other Pets

I have noticed that most Filipino homes have pets. Dogs (whether bred or askal), cats, birds, fish, mice (yup! even mice), hermit crabs, rabbits, turtles... you name it... Filipinos have it!

I've read somewhere that the existence of pets in a home create a more loving and happier atmosphere. I can say I have proven that. Our pets make us laugh and smile even in times that we are troubled with our own problems. Dogs' loyalty and their sweet nature, for example, keeps me high in spirit.

Whenever I take my dog out for a walk, there is never a day that nobody would come and talk to us. Great conversation starters, too LOL! Adults and children approach us and pet my big dog.

Having a pet is something that I can strongly advise to everyone. You do not need to have a big house space (since you can choose small pets) or be rich to own and maintain one. If you want to be happy, get a pet and love it. It will love you back tremendously!

Yes, pets in the Philippines was definitely a big thing. I always remembered having some type of pet when I was young and living in the Philippines, especially dogs. But reading your blog reminded me of the time whenever my dad killed our dog "kinatay" niya yung aso namin, para sa "pulutan". That's also a side of the Filipinos I saw in the Philippines. If there isn't some kind of law for that there should be, animals should be treated better.
